World's first jet pilot's 100: Erich Warsitz was the first person to fly a jet aircraft, the Heinkel He 178, and a liquid-fuel rocket aircraft, the Heinkel He 176. He was born 100 years ago, on 18 October 1906. In 1936, he was seconded to the Imperial Aviation Ministry, reporting to Wernher von Braun and Dr Ernst Heinkel.

A new book, so far only available in German, has been published to mark the centenary.
