On Sunday, August 27th 1939 - only a few days before the outbreak of war - Erich Warsitz piloted a jet aircraft, the Heinkel He 178, as the first person in the world. By staking his life he helped create the prerequisites that allow today's aviation technology to bridge time and space.

Commemorating his 100th birthday, his son Lutz Warsitz, who lives in Switzerland, has published a book titled Flugkapitän Erich Warsitz - der erste Düsenflugzeugpilot der Welt, publication date October 18, 2006.
